Evacuation

We were discharged from the hospital on Saturday- and we immediately took our first road trip… to MO, to leave the devastating flood waters behind us as I physically recover from Alece’s delivery and we all get aqcuainted as a family of four. We are staying with the parents of some of our closest friends… they have a wonderful, welcoming home and an incredible gift of hospitality. We’re being well cared for.

Please pray for our community.  The flood is devastating.  Our local news website is www.kcrg.com if you want a local perspective glimpse into what’s happening.  We don’t know the state of our house at the moment… but when we left Iowa City our street was one block away from the flood waters- which are expected to crest by Wednesday.  The photo below is from an intersection two blocks from our house…

I feel like I just need to close by saying that God is in control… of all things… at every moment… and I trust Him… and I trust His heart for me and my family.

    Oh my God, Amy!

What do you need? I’ll send those clothes to you for Alece in the next day or so if you need them? What about Silas? Do you need diapers, formula?

    I cannot believe this!

    We’ll be praying for you.

    Hey Amy–

I’ve been thinking about you guys this weekend, and just spoke with Sara about all of the things that have been going on–very busy times for you!

Just wanted to let you guys know that we’re praying for you, and please let me know if there is anything at all that we can do to help out.

Hi Amy, I didn’t realize that Iowa City was in danger until I looked at the paper this morning. I’ll be praying that everything goes okay. Take care.

Been praying for you and thought that you must have been evacuated…. I remembered a post from last fall when you were talking about being close to the Saturday football crowd, and on the news they were talking about the university closing buildings last Thursday….been praying for all that have been affected by all the rain in the mid-west. even my parents in Ohio are REALLY wet. Still wish you guys could send that down a pipeline, not via a river, to us!

What a crazy adventure! You are such a hero. That little Angel hasn’t a care in the world, though, as long as she’s in your arms; that’s home to her.

I am sure Silas is having a great time running by the lake and petting the ponies :)

We’ll keep praying for the great state of Iowa!

When you get back to town, if you need help with your home, or someone to watch the kids while you sort it out. Let me know. I hope it stayed dry!

“It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself."
